Pregnancy update

I am now more than full term in my pregnancy, and I have to say that this pregnancy has kicked my butt! I have been in so much pain the past few weeks, and to add to that, I fell (I feel like a very old person) today for the second time this week.

The first time was on Thursday and I slipped on some vegetable oil that I didn't know was on my kitchen floor (Thank you Mark and James for getting into something you weren't supposed to!!) and I landed on the side of my stomach, so I was worried about the baby.

One awesome friend watched my kids while another awesome friend hauled my sore butt to the doctor's office, where I had a non-stress test and a sonogram to make sure that everything was ok. Thankfully, everything was great! The baby is perfect, which was my main concern.

I was also able to confirm that I have been having contractions every 5 minutes (I AM NOT CRAZY!!!!), but they're not strong enough to get me into real labor yet, which is what happened with both of my other boys. I contracted every 5 minutes for DAYS with no big results! Apparently my contractions only get me dilated as far as a few centimeters, and then I stop. We finally used a little pitocin to get me over the hump with both boys and my labor took off with fast and amazing results once I got that little whiff!

Now, I have another appointment tomorrow, and we'll see if anything more has happened dilation-wise, or if we're looking at a little more pitocin to keep moving forward. I feel like such a failure in part, because I feel like I'm just bowing out of the natural process and taking the easy way out. BUT I'm ready! My body is ready! This baby has wanted to be ready for many many weeks now (hence the bedrest earlier), and is physically ready now. I've been dilating every 5 minutes for a week for goodness sakes!!!!! I keep praying that my water will just break and I can go the 'natural' way, the way you're supposed to go, but that may just not be what's best for me, the baby, and in keeping with God's plan. I'm trying to be flexible with my expectations and just concentrate on the end result!

Anyway, my wonderful friend Kim took our family/pregnancy photos today, so I am very excited to finally post some pregnancy pictures!!! I'll get them up as soon as she has a chance to edit them!

Please join me in praying that this baby comes out fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Diapers.com $25 off of a $50 order

I've seen lots of ads for diapers.com in the past couple of years, in various magazines, mailings, online, etc, and I had always thought about checking it out, but never actually done it. I did it for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I was very satisfied!

I was on bedrest and we needed diapers. I love my husband, but I really didn't want to send him out with the very specific instructions on how to buy diapers that worked for us at a good price (aka stacking coupons, using register rewards, etc) so I bought a GIGANTIC pack of Huggies and a big pack of Pampers (for the new baby) from diapers.com.

Not only did the price end up being about the same as a great deal on diapers in town, but they delivered them to my door!! This was a huge bonus since I couldn't leave the house myself. Plus it's a great way to stock up on diapers without running from store to store, buying coupons online, and you can wear your jammies without anyone seeing you!

First, I compared the cost of both scenarios. Here's a good way to compare the cost of diapers: I like to calculate the price per diaper when I'm trying to figure out if packages with different amounts than I'm used to are really a good deal. So I take the total cost and divide that by the number of diapers in the package/s.

This week at Walgreens, Huggies are on sale, plus you get $3 RR, plus you can use coupons, so let's take that scenario for comparison.

Huggies size 4 $8.99
-$3 RR
-$1 MQ
-$1 WQ
=$3.99 per pack

These size 4 packages have 31 diapers, which, if you calculate it, equals to be about $.13 per diaper. The cost of the diapers without a sale (usually $11) is about $.35 per diaper.

I spent $25 at diapers.com for large amounts of both NB Pampers diapers and size 4 Huggies diapers, and the total cost per diaper, after the coupon codes and rebate available, was $.14 per diaper. Add to that the fact that Pampers cost more per diaper than Huggies, I didn't have to leave the house, they were delivered to my door, and I was out of diaper coupons to use at the store even if I could have gone, I came out on top!

Now that I'm sure you're as convinced as I was, here's how to do it. Through the end of February at diapers.com, if you use my referral code (PROVIDENT), you get an instant $10 off of your order on any kind of diapers (They carry a large variety of brands.)

You also get free 2 day shipping if you spend $49 or more.

ALSO you can get a $14.97 rebate (or a free subscription to Parenting the early years magazine) when you buy $15 worth of diapers from diapers.com.

SO...

Go to diapers.com and set up a new account with my referral code (PROVIDENT) for an instant $10 off. Fill your cart with at least $49 of any brand of diapers (they also carry a wide variety of reusable diapers if you're interested.) You will qualify for free shipping. Check out. In two days, your diapers will arrive on your door. Send the receipt enclosed with THIS form for your rebate.

You will end up paying about the same as a really good sale on diapers, which only happens every couple of months.

Kid to Kid sale

Kid to Kid is a children's consignment store, which has locations all around the country! Our local Kid to Kid store, in Evans, GA, is having a couple of great sales these next two weeks (I'm not sure if it's only a local sale or if every location is having the same sale, but check out yours just in case!)

Basically, they're revamping their 0-9 months section to only include the top brands, so they're trying to get rid of their non-name brand stuff. I told the cashier that I hated to hear that because I'm not really one to go searching for the top brands of clothing for my children and I am more than happy to spend less on good quality, used, non-name brands, especially for children who are under a year old and barely use the clothes anyway! Oh well. Anyway, right now, all the 0-9 month clothing is buy two, get one free. I was able to get two barely used shirts and a brand new jacket for the new baby (Gymboree, Carter's, and TCP brands) for $5 because all of them were marked down on top of getting one for free! I was pretty happy with what I got!

What I really wish that I could participate is the next sale, but I'm hoping to be recovering from having a baby around that time. In addition to revamping the store, they're celebrating their anniversary, so next week, from the 18th-21st, they're offering 40% off of all marked down items, and 20% off of everything else. I found a lot of clothes that were marked down, so this could mean some really great deals for all sizes!

Go HERE for more information on this sale or to get directions!

FREE Denny's Grandslam breakfast!!

On February 9, 2010 from 6 am to 2 pm ONLY, Denny’s will be giving away free Grand Slam Breakfasts to anyone who comes in, with NO PURCHASE NECESSARY!

Last time they did this, the lines were HUGE, but they were giving away rainchecks, so it may be worth checking out! I'm debating slightly, but I will probably not be doing this because it always looks like a nice little family activity in my head and then turns into more than I can handle in real life (long lines with a VERY pregnant mama and two small boys doesn't usually equal a good time.)

Go HERE for more details on this great freebie!

Playing the Couponing Game

I look at couponing as a multi-league game of sorts.

First, you have the people who could honestly care less about the sport. They would be the people who buy what they want, when they want it and are completely satisfied with that. They may know that better deals are to be had, but write it off as not worth the time needed, or just plain don't care.

Second, you have the cheerleaders/fans who don't play, but appreciate the game and/or the players and what they do. They commend the performance, but don't participate themselves.

Then you have the junior league. They participate, but at the lowest level. These are people who might shop the sales of the store they already frequent. They may go to Wal-Mart every week and choose the off-brand juice instead of the name-brand juice because that's what's cheaper. Therefore, they save a little bit.

Next is the high school league, which is a great level in and of itself. This would be those who clip coupons each week, and use them on things that they are already getting. They may also pay attention to the sales and buy based on that; not just buying what they want, but using coupons also.

The next level would be a semi-professional league. These are people who have a pretty good understanding of the game. They will shop the ads, possibly going to multiple stores for the best bargains, matching coupons to maximize savings, buying when the prices are low and doing some amount of stocking up. They know the coupons, have a good idea of what a good 'buy price' is for most of the items they get, and relish the deal.

Finally, we have the professional league, the big-timers, the hard-core couponers. These are the people who have a very good understanding of loss leaders, rotating sales, coupon stacking and doubling, stockpiling, utilizing overage, etc. They know the game inside and out, and play it like a pro.

This is how I see the 'game' of couponing. A few of my friends like to say that I'm one of the hard-core ones, the professionals, but I am NOT! Usually, I'm about at the semi-pro league. I have been at most of these levels though, at different times in my life. From not caring to 'waste' my time, to spending hours sitting at a computer with stacks of circulars, piles of coupons, an over-used printer, and about 20 internet tabs open for comparison, I've pretty much run the gammut.

Right now, I try to shoot for a semi-professional league status. Different stages of pregnancy/motherhood have forced me to drop my ranking for a period of time, but those don't last forever. The times when I am able to dabble at the professional league usually level out the times when I have to sit on the bench in the minors, but the important thing is that I continue to weigh the benefits of my participation at any level.

Is it worth saving $20 a week to stay in the semi-professional league, when most of my day is spent laying on the bathroom floor? No. Is it worth dragging my kids all over town every day to score a few extra deals? No. Is it worth putting my un-born baby at risk of being born a premie (I'm on bedrest) so that I can make a few extra bucks at Walgreens or score some free chapstick? Definately NO!

Couponing is a game that I have really come to love. I relish the thrill of a great deal and it gives me great satisfaction to know that I am financially contributing in some way to my family.

But at the end of the day... it's just a game.
