Black Friday deals

Once again I'll be hitting the pavement for some of the Black Friday deals. I won't be camping out or heading out quite as early as some (thankfully,) but I will be heading out just the same. My mother thinks I'm crazy. She likes to avoid any and all crowds, especially ones prone to craziness as the ones who desperately want those hot HOT deals are, but I really have a great time when I go.

For me, it's a day of shopping without kids, some real actual bonding time with some of the women in my family, and a way to get some of my Christmas shopping done more quickly and cheaper than I may otherwise get it done! Plus, it's a lot easier to convince my husband to let me out for one day (especially when it's with his mother and sister) instead of multiple shorter trips.

Another perk is that I get one of those highs, similar to the ones that I get when I get my freebies each week at the stores, or see the 75% savings on the grocery receipt. It's thrilling to get a great deal!

I won't be posting all of my shopping on here, as some of my family members read this blog and I like to at least try to keep some secrets, but I'll post about where I went, and some of the savings.

If you aren't crazy enough to head out tomorrow, be sure to check online at your favorite stores. Most stores offer similar deals for their online shoppers. You can also check out Amazon, which is having some pretty great deals right now. You may have to start early, or you may have to live with missing some of the best, but it's a great way to score some deals! Also, check out Ebates before you buy to see if you can get some cash back for your puchases to further sweeten the deals (you get a $5 bonus just for signing up. I've used them multiple times and love them!

If you are still considering braving the crowds, check out black-friday.net to see all the ads in one place. It's easy to navigate, organized well, and you can see the ads to just about anywhere you may want to shop!

Making use of the CRAZY grocery sales!

A couple of weeks ago, Wal-Mart had their turkeys on sale for $.40/lb, which is an amazing deal. Personally, I've never made a turkey in my life and never planned on doing so because my mother and mother-in-law will live forever.

But, $.40/lb for ANY kind of meat is amazing. You just can't beat that. So, I bought one. I also had the turkey in my freezer that I had gotten free after rebate a few months ago with a Unilever rebate (free is free!)

So... no, I still have never cooked a turkey. I paid $1.50 to the AMAZING bbq place down the street to smoke one for me. I know, I cheated, but it was worth every penny and I'd do it again in a second! Plus the flavor is wonderful!

Anyway, so we had sliced turkey the night after I picked it up and it was wonderful, but then the real fun began for me. I had about 15+ lbs of turkey left over to make dinners with. So, here's what I have done so far and plan to do in the next couple of days:

Turkey Shepherd's Pie
Turkey Tetrazinni (x2)
Turkey Divan (x2)
Turkey Chili (x2)
Turkey Pot Pie (x2)
Turkey Soup
Tex-Mex Turkey Soup
Turkey broth (to use in soups, recipes, etc; probably enough for 4 uses)

So all in all, at $.40/lb, I paid about $10 for this turkey, and it provided 12 meals (not counting the broth that it will make,) which comes out to be about $.83 per meal for the meat. I'm also freezing all of the meals as I assemble them, so they will be ready to go during the next few weeks when things get so crazy!

I also still have the free turkey that I had gotten, so I may still have to cook a turkey myself. I'm even actually wishing that I had gotten another turkey or two from Wal-Mart, but maybe attempting to cook one turkey this year will be enough for me to take on. There's always next year, and you can bet that I'll be stocking up then!

KMart RX coupon in today's paper

Once again, you can use these at CVS too! They accept competitor's prescription coupons!!!

FREE Shrimp at Earth Fare!

Earth Fare puts out another great coupon! This one's good for a free pound of fresh shrimp and is good through November 22, 2009. I love Earth Fare!

Soft Coin (more loadable Kroger coupons)

Here's another company that offers loadable coupons for Kroger. Just sign up, register your Kroger card, and choose which coupons you want. When you check out, the register knows that you have a coupon for the item you bought. It comes off automatically! No clipping, no counting, no nothing!

The ONLY time I have had any trouble is when I didn't scan my card until after the cashier started scanning, although I don't know if that's something that would happen every time. Just in case, make sure the cashier scans your card first.

There are other sites that offer loadable coupons at Kroger. P&G, Shortcuts, and Cellfire are all sites that do the same thing. Check out my post HERE to read about them and get the links.

FREE $15 towards any purchase at CSN!

Ok, so apparently, they must be getting a lot of response to this promotion because I have heard that they changed the referral code to be $15 off of a $50 purchase. If you already did this, it will work the original way, but if you are just signing up now, it's $15 off of $50 purchase.

CSN is offering this GREAT deal! You get $15 free towards any purchase for being referred to their site! This is towards ANY purchase and they have TONS of stuff! I was able to get this great Melissa and Doug game for $5.95 (you have to pay shipping) only, which will be a great, cheap Christmas present for my kids.

You have to be referred by a current member (which I am) or you won't be able to use the $15. Here's the really great part: You can get an additional $15 for every friend you refer who uses their $15 credit, plus, you get an additional $75 for referring 5 friends. So... If you refer 5 friends, you get an additional $150 to spend on Christmas FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't get money for referring more than 5 friends, so once I hit my 5 referrals (PLEASE GET ME MY 5 REFERRALS!), I'd be happy to post someone else's referral link so that they can get the referrals and the money towards their own account.

Go HERE to get your $15 towards any purchase!!!

Kmart $25 gift card for transferred prescription coupons!

My friend Marie told me about (and then gave me) these coupons that she found at Kmart.

Usually, the Kmart ad will have a coupon for a $10 gift card with any new or transferred prescription filled. (By the way, these are great for any time that you're sick and have a one-time prescription that you need filled. You can't transfer the prescription, because it's only being filled once, but you can get a $10 gift card at Kmart or at CVS every time you or someone in your family is sick.)

Marie found these booklets at our Kmart that have four coupons for $25 gift cards when you transfer a prescription. It also says that you can get up to $100 in gift cards, so you can transfer 4 prescriptions and walk out with $100 in gift cards!!!!

Even at Rite Aid, you are only allowed two, for a total gift card amount of $50, so $100 is awesome!!! They're good through the end of December, so go get yours!

To me, this is well worth the hassle to transfer, especially with Christmas coming up so soon. Who couldn't use an extra $100 for something you do every month anyway?

Ricola (profit $.50)
Accu-Check meter (FREE)

Ziploc bags ($1.59 after coupon) I'll use this to submit for the $5 SC Johnson rebate, along with the free Glade sense n sprays I'll get today at CVS, so actually, the total will be about $3.40 profit!
Sunday Paper (2 @ $1.50)

So it looks like my total for that transaction, including the rebate, will be about $1.89 for $33.85 in products!

Letting some deals pass by in exchange for better things

Today, I was on a retreat, a women's retreat. Now, normally, I don't look forward to women's retreats. Don't get me wrong. It's not that I dislike women; I love women. I am a woman (DUH!), but it can be a little overwhelming for me sometimes. I find it difficult to put my hesitation into words, but I can be a little overwhelmed with the massive amounts of femininity that a large group of women brings. I'm sure it's something that God is working on with me, and so I usually try to let those feelings go, and embrace the experience.

Well, the location of this retreat was about an hour away, and Earth Fare is on the way there, so I figured that as a trade off for losing an entire Saturday of possible shopping trips (with children being sick, drs appts for both my husband and myself, and dealing with a broken fridge AGAIN, I still had a couple of places that I wanted to go before the week was up.) My plan was to go drive to the retreat alone, and stop at Earth Fare (and maybe Walgreens) on my way home.

I had a HORRIBLE morning. I overslept, lost my directions, fought with my husband, and left the house with both children screaming and begging me not to leave to go on this retreat that I was not looking forward to. I drove a while, fought with my husband on my cell phone even more, and then lost signal as I tried to maneuver my way through a very unfamiliar and less densly populated area. I drove for what seemed like forever, tried to call for directions when I finally found signal, only to have my phone die (thank you technology and my absent-minded self for forgetting to charge my battery last night!)

All of the sudden this sense of impending doom fell over me. All I could think of was how crappy my marriage is, what a bad wife I am, and what a terrible mother I am. This, and being hopelessly lost was enough to send my pregnant hormones into overload, and I started sobbing! When I say sobbing, I mean flood gates couldn't have held back the whopping tears that were pouring down my face. Then the car started shaking... badly... I noticed the check engine light, and the fact that I had about 1/4 of a tank of gas in the middle of nowhere, and I was sure that I would break down on the side of the road, and I would die there. Noone would realize that I was even missing until 8:00 that night and I would be dead, alone, on the side of the road. I was a little melodramatic, I know, but I was under some severe spiritual attack.

Finally, a dull numbness came over me. Everything sort of glazed over and I gripped the wheel with white knuckles, repeating the name of the park over and over again in a mantra-like way, in between dry sobs. I don't know how, and I don't really remember much to be honest, but I made it to the retreat, but only by the grace of God and the prayers of my friends and family who knew that I was not where I should be and were worried (I suppose that even if I had broken down on the side of the road, I probably wouldn't have died, or at least would have been missed well before 8:00.)

I had a great retreat. I missed some of it unfortunately, but I experienced a lot of peace, joy, love, and general filling up of my spiritual cup. I really feel like I was able to get the encouragement that I needed to continue my journey to God, and I was even able to make a couple of baby steps with Him in my prayer time.

The entire day was different than I had thought it would be. My plan for my trip home was even altered, as I ended up with a car full of women to drive with. The drive home in and of itself was a wonderful experience. I rode with some really amazing women (my mother-in-law included, who I have always known to be amazing and love listening to just about anything she has to say), and I truly enjoyed just listening to them. I wanted the hour to stretch much further than it did, just so that I could listen to them more.

I thought about all of this tonight, and how this was DEFINATELY not the way that I would have chosen to spend my Saturday, even if I had been excited about going to the retreat in the first place. Not only did I 'lose' a Saturday, but I 'missed out on' those deals that I wanted to get on the way home. Honestly though, I gained so so much. I swear, I will only think about the lost freebies for a few minutes tonight, because what I got by letting those deals pass by me is worth so much more and will last so much longer.

$10 coupon booklet from Organic Valley

Organic Valley is giving $10 coupon booklets (and a chance to win a lot more.) Just go HERE and fill out the information to get your booklet.

A great read...

I was reading Life As Mom, which is a blog that I visit about once a week, and I was really moved by this one post that she made. I don't usually post about others' posts, especially if they don't have anything to do with couponing, saving money, etc, but this one really struck me! It's about trusting God in the face of devastating circumstances, and being grateful for what we have. That's a very lame way to explain it, so just read it. Trust me.

FREE cranberries at Earth Fare

Earth Fare sent out a coupon for a free lb of fresh cranberries with any purchase through the 17th! I am loving these Earth Fare coupons!

Black Friday deals (it's faster than you think!)

The highly awaited Black Friday is approaching quickly, and after boycotting for a few years (working Black Friday every year at 4:00 am at Walmart will put a bad taste in your mouth), I started going the past few years with the women in my family and I have a blast! There are some AMAZING deals to be had if you are willing to sacrifice a little bit of sleep.

My sister-in-law tipped me off to this great website, called black-friday.net, that shows you the black friday ads as they are released. Most stores publish their ads weeks before the actual Thanksgiving paper comes out. Also, many stores are doing black friday preview sales before black friday, and this site publishes those too!

The most important thing I have found to do in getting the best deal on anything is to plan ahead. If you're going to be doing black friday shopping, you'll need to plan ahead. Check it out HERE.

Home Made Simple booklet available

There's a new Home Made Simple booklet available. These always have great coupons for cleaning supplies, air fresheners, etc. They're usually much better than the coupons you get in the paper, and they publish coupons in these booklets that you can't find anywhere else.

Go HERE to sign up for yours!

More Walgreens deals

Here are a few more Walgreens deals for this week that have popped up. These need coupon booklets, and when I went to my Walgreens last night, they didn't have any of the healthy savings booklets (or know what I was talking about, or seem to care, but that's another story,) so be careful before you do some of these.

Kleenex Tissue $1.09 with in-ad coupon
-$0.50/3 coupon from the 10/4 or 11/1 SmartSource inserts
-$1/1 Kleenex coupon from the Healthy Savings Booklet
=FREE plus overage when you buy three and use both coupons
Even without the manufacturer's coupon, you'll only pay $.09 a box

Ocean Spray 100% Cranberry and Cranberry Pomegranate Juice $1.99 each (limit 2)
-$1/1 coupon from the November coupon booklet
=$.99 each!

Target wipes deal

I have a lot of posts to catch up on since the last couple days have been crazy and everyone has been sickly.

Target has a coupon for $1/1 Up and Up diapers or wipes, any size, excluding trial. I've never looked at the prices for Target wipes, but I would imagine that this would make for some pretty cheap wipes!

I usually don't get to Target because I haven't always had much success with getting all the great deals that everyone else seems to get, but I may try again for the wipes.

Quick little tips!

I've got a few little tips that don't really qualify for an entire post by themselves, so I'll put them on here:

My friend Rebecca told me that Wal-Mart has Jennie-O Turkeys on sale for $.40/lb right now. That is pretty darn cheap!

Bi-Lo has ground chuck on sale for $1.98/lb. Combined with those $.50 off ground beef coupons, that would make for some pretty cheap hamburger. They do come in a value pack only, but I was able to use one coupon per pound in my value pack.

Denny's has a coupon out for a free burger and fries when you buy another burger, fries, and two drinks. Go HERE for your coupon.

Christian Audio is offering a free download of the audiobook Desiring God by John Piper. Go HERE and use the code Nov2009 after you add it to your cart.
